Wed - (4) 10 February 1873, Leicester Registry Office to Thomas Porter (see below)
Died - 28 April 1898, Leicester Union (Workhouse).
Burial 28 April 1898, Welford Road Cemetery, Leicester
1851 - 133 Bedford Street, Leicester. Unmarried. Sempstress. Living with John Cooper, a 31 year old unmarried bricklayer born Suffolk. Her relationship to John is not listed - was he the father of her children? Also living there were her/their children Mary, Henry and Jane. Martha's age is given as 29 on the 1851 census, when it should be at least 31 according to her baptism record.
1857 - Woodboy Street, Leicester. The burial record for Martha's stillborn child in January 1857 states that she was living in Woodboy Street, Leicester and indicates that she was unmarried at this time.
1861 - 69 Eaton Street. Martha was Martha Cooper, living with John William Cooper and children (at least Henry, Ephraim and Joseph). It seems that this is the father of Mary's son Henry and probably Joseph, although the latter lists his father as William Moulding on his marriage record. No record of Martha's marriage to John Cooper has been found as yet.
1871 - 109 Denman Street, Leicester. Listed as Martha Cooper, a widow
1873 - 109 Denman Street, Leicester (from marriage certificate)
1881 - 7 Neale Street, Leicester. Framework knitter. Martha is living with husband Thomas Porter. They were living with who is thought to be Thomas's children from his previous marriage, Thomas and Harry.
1891 - thought to be in Leicester Union Workhouse
Wedding - Thomas Porter was 56, widower, framework knitter of 7 Neale Street, Leicester. Martha was 51, widow of 109 Denman Street, Leicester. They were married by certificate. Witnesses were Joseph and Sarah Daft. All four signed their marks.
